Readmission after Expulsion or Suspension                                                                                                 

  1.     Readmission at the Conclusion of Expulsion or Suspension. 

A student suspended long term or expelled with a specific return to school date may return to district schools following the end of the long term suspension or expulsion, subject to any conditions imposed. A student must contact the school office at least seven (7) school or business days prior to the expected return date to schedule an interview with the principal. The student must adhere to any and all conditions required by the principal and school district upon returning to school.

  1.     Readmission Prior to Suspension or Expulsion Ending.

(a) Purpose. The Board provides the following to allow a student to seek readmission to return to school prior to the student’s long term suspension or expulsion has ended or when the student has been expelled for an indefinite term. 

(b) Student’s Readmission Requirements.  A student seeking readmission for purposes of this section must:

(1)  provide a statement in writing to be submitted to the Superintendent to be transmitted to the School Board which states:

        1.   why the student wants to return to school,
        2.   what the student learned from the expulsion and events leading up to the expulsion, and
        3. how the student has remedied the cause(s) for which the disciplinary action was ordered;

(2)  if applicable, present evidence establishing the student has satisfied all reinstatement conditions included in the Board’s decision; and

(3) meet with the Superintendent or designee about reinstatement and school placement.  The student will also meet with the Principal of the school where the student will be placed prior to any recommendation being made by the Superintendent. 

(4) students must continue studies during the period of expulsion. Enrolling in the district’s Fast Track homeschool program is recommended.

(c) Superintendent Recommendation.  If the student has satisfied the requirements under (b) of this section, the Superintendent or designee will make a recommendation to the Board regarding early reinstatement.  A student seeking readmission will only be readmitted by action of the Board. 

(d) School Board Action. The student will be scheduled to appear at a School Board executive session to discuss their readmission. The School Board will act to approve or deny readmission following a student’s appearance at an executive session. All hearings shall be held in private, except that the Board in its discretion may grant a public hearing if a student requests that the hearing be public.

(e) Conditions Upon Readmission.  Upon readmission, written conditions related to the student’s placement and attendance will be formulated and provided to the student.  The student must adhere to any and all readmission conditions to retain the privilege to attend the school.
