EMPLOYMENT OF SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

The Superintendent of schools may employ temporary and part-time personnel without election by the Board of Education where such employment is necessary for the welfare of the schools and where funds for such employment have been budgeted. 

Substitute teachers may be certificated or non-certificated, depending on the availability of qualified personnel.  The Superintendent shall establish procedures to determine priorities in the calling of substitutes. 

The Board believes that substitute teachers’ salaries should be established in accordance with Alaska Statutes and fair employment practices.  Rates of compensation for substitute teachers will be established by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Education, (E 4121).
